+1 on the 7800's We use them in bridge mode onto mikrotiks at work. In the end we ended up using Billion 7800 series, in our case 7800NXL. They use the Broadcom chipset for DSL and it is very stable but you must use D firmware. The previous firmwares were unstable. The D firmware has been out for almost a year. We use them on 150+ sites. We have started to pull out onsite PoE switches and replace with Microtik then use the billion in pppoe passthrough bridge mode. So far as good. I don't like to loud mouth other manufactures, but tplink, dlink and others business models do not allow enough time for bug hunting or they continue to add features (draytek) and make the firmware unstable. There is always the Cisco path but for mass deployment stability 7800 is the pick of the bunch and the price is right. Billion also makes a chaep 7700 but I would not touch it. POE Conversion help....

Hi guys, we have a Mikroitk QRT on a mast running from a POE injector down below in the building, it's all working fine. We now need to add an IP camera on the mast which will use the same cable and needs to run from POE as well. The QRT only has one port and we need that radio, an omnitik with poe out won't work, so we need to split the cable somehow with a hardened switch or something, but the catch is that the Mikrotik passive POE won't run the camera as it's 802.3af, I am looking for some quick to implement and relatively cheap ways of making this happen and was hoping somebody would have some simple suggestions ? There is no option to run a second cable so I have to make this work somehow with one cable L Regards Paul

Ahh, true, depends on which mode, and whether it's dedicated DC or mixed DC.. Wireless gear stolen off roof in Sydney

Hi guys, if you are in Sydney and by any chance get offered a near new Mikrotik QRT 5Ghz Unit really cheap it could be ours. Unfortunately somebody decided to climb up onto a 8M high roof on Friday morning at one of our wireless POPs and stole our QRT, mast and guy wires. The incident has been reported to Police but I don't hold any faith in getting it back. The installation was in Gladesville, it's now got me thinking about GPS units in radio enclosures and IP cameras watching antennas, we really shouldn't have to do this sort of thing but just thought I would let people know to be wary, just because something is on a roof doesn't mean it's safe, solar panels and batteries are probably another good target to be careful of. Hi guys, just wondering if anybody has successfully used a Mikrotik CCR or anything really for L2TP/PPPOE termination for stuff like DSL services ? We need to do the typical PPPOE session termination with AV-Pairs and Framed Routes, Framed-IP etc etc from radius, we currently use Cisco but the jump to something more beefy in Cisco world to handle the increase in NBN service speeds is big so was looking to smooth the transition costs a bit with a CCR if possible. I know a while back it couldn't be done for some reason but wasn't sure if it worked now in V6 now or not. Regards Paul

CCR at 10G and FlowAccounting

Hey All. I am wondering if anyone has put a CCR in a LAB and tried to route 10G via it. I know they say it will do it, and in fast path it should rock it. I am happy to have the routers in fastpath mode BUT I need to get netflow/flow data from it. Wondering if anyone has tested 10G in 10G out on a CCR with a full routing table. No Firewall. No Conn-track but with flow accounting on. I am guessing the answer is "no" but I also don't have enough gear to test it. Opinions? Daniel

mAP and 802.3af

Hi Folks, Just a heads-up for anyone who hasn't already discovered, that despite marketing claims that mAP-2n supports 802.3af PoE input and passthrough, we have so far been unable to make it work like that. We've tried lots of different ways including reversal of the power pairs in case it is a polarity issue (i.e. 'type a'/'type b' deal) It *does* power up ok using a 48v power supply and standard injector, but that's not what the claims stated ;) If anyone else has done it successfully from an 802.3af or at switch, there will certainly be a lot of people interested to hear how it is done! In the meantime, MT official have been mute about it - if they have anything to say (that we are able to repeat) I'll be sure to rpat it here! :) Cheers, Mike

Connecting MikroTik Wireless to a Hotspot

Hi Is there any way to connect a MikroTik Wireless AP in Station Mode to a Hot Spot that normally needs a user to press the OK? I have read http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Connect_to_an_Available_Wireless_Network that lets me connect the MikroTik to the other AP, but not sure if it's possible to get it to accept the agreement acceptance button. VLAN Injection.....

Hi guys, hoping somebody could suggest an option here. We have a customer that we are doing a trunk for which goes from their office to our DC and then to them in that DC. It looks like: Local Site Data Centre Ether1 -> bridge -> EOIP Tunnel -> bridge ->Ether1 This has been setup this way so that they can just push whatever they want through the tunnel, which is basically 4 vlans, so with this design they should be able to send and receive tagged traffic between the two Ethernet ports without an issue. The problem we have is that we now need to supply an additional vlan to the DC end of the link, but because it's a layer 2 trunk I am not sure of the best way to approach this. I have thought of putting a vlan on the physical interface and another on the bridge interface and setting up a /30 between those two vlan interfaces but to be honest I don't know if that will actually work, has anybody experienced this before and have any suggestions before I just try it ? Basically we need to provide them a layer 3 connection as well as the layer two connection but into the same physical interface at the DC. Thanks Paul
