Thanks Karl! All feedback is great feedback : ) To clarify a bit, if it does, the purpose of splitting up those 'swag' and 'catering' like that is to try to figure out what value folks place on those things. That is - what we can afford to put into the swag, and what level of catering can we offer. So it's sort of the reverse of what you are thinking - if everyone says they would pay extra $150 for catering, then we could include a sit-down lunch, but if they only value it at 10 bucks, then yeah, sausage rolls and mini-franks :-D To be up-front about it, we have done all of the organising for the previous MUMs in AU, and always it ended up as a net cost - but ALWAYS worth doing (and spending) for the great results all up : ) If we get this up, I fully expect it to run at a bare break even at best, or if we end up spending a few $k on it, then also a good result : ) At this time, it is still early days - I have not discussed it with MikroTik people yet, but have a meeting with our account manager next week and want to be able to give them some numbers when I do. To do it 'properly', we absolutely need at least one of them to attend in person - by live video feed as a poor second choice. So fat, I'm totally floored by the response so far - it is already looking like a potential goer : ) But more data is always helpful - if folks pass the link around and encourage as many to respond as we can, it will only increase the chances of a great outcome! : ) Cheers, Mike. -----Original Message----- From: Public <public-bounces@talk.mikrotik.com.au> On Behalf Of Karl Auer via Public Sent: Monday, 25 March 2024 5:59 PM To: MikroTik Australia Public List <public@talk.mikrotik.com.au> Cc: Karl Auer <kauer@nullarbor.com.au> Subject: Re: [MT-AU Public] MikroTik User Meeting (MUM) in Australia? I'll happily report back here on a summary of responses :-}
There were heaps of places where I wanted to answer "it depends". For example the swag and the catering. If it's first-class catering I'm ready to pay for that, but if it's sausage rolls and tomato sauce, then not. Same for swag - if there is really good stuff on offer I'm not stupid enough to think it should be free, but if it's yet another ball- point pen and a notebook in a shoulder bag stuffed with brochures, then... Also, location. I'll go to Canberra (3.5 hours easy drive), but Sydney? 5 hours flying including intrusive security or 7-9 hours driving with super-expensive parking and accommodation when I get there; travel + accommodation double or triple the conference cost. Not a complaint; the advantages of capital cities are obvious. But they really do not serve everyone. And even their residents might quite like to get out of the big city for a while. There is interest value in being somewhere different.
