I'll add in the motel complex I set up the Proscend VDSL pair on, a bunch of the rooms have Cat3 (nice!) and a bunch have Cat2. I was able to get 100Mbit ethernet working on the Cat2 cables using 2 pairs as each room has several pairs for some reason. I did a bunch of testing first and all 6 rooms connect back to RG260's on Cat2 with no errors at 100Mbit. Maybe you can get away with it too.
