I see Netgear have a basic DM200 unit which is a modem only capable of bridging for about $80. Whirlpool shows you have to put firmware 1.0.0.36 on first otherwise it'll lock the port. I think it might be a while before decent modems that have good sync and don't crash once a day come out.... On 1 September 2016 at 09:08, Matt Richards <matt@shakesbeare.com> wrote:
I haven't tried it yet, but Internode have released a bridge-mode firmware for the TG-1 https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2472057&p=3#r42

It's been a few months since the last post. Does anyone have anything new to say on NBN VDSL modems or improvements with firmware updates for units discussed above - like the Vigor 130?

Only time will tell if they do or not. On 21/05/2016 5:52 pm, "Philip Loenneker" <Philip.Loenneker@tasmanet. com.au> wrote:
Thanks Russell - I wasn't aware that it was only a chipset, not an actual
product you could already buy.
I think we would purchase quite a few if they became available. If anyone happens to see these available, please share on this list :)

Who can blame them. The regulatory requirements to make any sort of
a/vdsl
modem and get it approved in enough global markets are way to expensive
for
there low margin product line.
Would be very very nice to see a manufacturer build that unit. I would take quite a few if it was comparable with routeros

Hi Philip

My understanding is that the Metanoia product isn't complete but they'd
sell it to an OEM who can produce a final product. At the very least it'd need to be supported in RouterOS. I emailed the link to the module to Mikrotik, and they weren't at all interested unfortunately.

Hi Russell,
The Metanoia link I provided is to a VDSL2 SFP module, one that is already being manufactured - I wasn't suggesting that Mikrotik should make one, I was pointing out that one exists :)

I contacted Mikrotik about that back in March. Their response was:
"We are not planning to manufacture such SFP modules in near future."

Hi Mike,
Have you looked at this page? http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/fttn_registered_modem_router
I really want to see if one of these work, but haven't investigated
suppliers or anything yet:

An SFP module as a VDSL modem sounds very tidy - just drop one in an
RB2011 and away you go!

Hi Folks,
A few months back, I asked for opinions on a good adsl modem to use a
bridge for MikroTik PPPoE.
With increase in prevalence of VDSL services (especially with #nbwhen
;)
does anyone have some opinion of readily available and 'good' (not necessarily cheap ;) vdsl modems?
Cheers!
Mike.
