Hi Russell, Disable the VPN account at your end and then enable it when required. Lower the retry rate for the VPN at the client site so its only trying to connect every 10 mins or so. Cheers -Matt On 26/11/2014 4:11 am, "Russell Hurren" <russell@zeropointnetworks.com> wrote:
Hi everyone
I have a couple of RB411U's with Sierra Wireless MC8705 <http://shop.duxtel.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=196>'s (3G cards) at remote sites acting as out-of-band console servers for the onsite routers. The client is paying for the 3G service, and they've gone with the cheapest service they could find, which gives them 100MB/month and no public IP. I'm having to keep a tunnel permanently open to reach them, which is causing it to go over the download limit each month.
I had the idea of using SMS to wake them up, but I couldn't figure out how to configure them to handle SMSs. When I try to enable Receive, the port (usb2) briefly shows "Used By - SMS Tool" and then I get the message "Couldn't change SMS Settings - timeout (6)".
They're connected to the Internet using an LTE interface in 3G mode, not PPP. Do I need to drop the LTE connection for the SMS to work? (This wouldn't be a problem, but I'd have to recall one to test it, as they're 450km away and I don't have any other way to access them.)
Anyone have any ideas?
