Yes, probably once you move beyond about 50m in the open air, a directional antenna becomes more sensible. There are many panel antenna options available for 2 and 5Ghz that will do the job. Most of them have an N-Female bulkhead antenna connector so you can attach the Groove direct if need be, by a right-angle N-to-N adapter, or by a short bit of antenna cable.
Perhaps you need to consider adding a few of each kind to your standard site-kit so you have it all handy to deploy depending on the situation you encounter?
