I've recently started using iTop for configuration management, and I take the URL of each device and put it in a QR code on a sticker on the device, so if I send a tech onsite they can look up the config detail. We still have to manually enter that information into iTop though. I plan on scripting some of it (eg, query a device to get all it's ports and MAC addresses) but haven't got very far yet. If someone was interested in developing something like you describe, perhaps this might be a good starting point? Its not so much the monitoring/reporting/alerting. Cacti/Nagios and PRTG cover all that off.
Looking for more configuration things, for example one place my level 1 guys can log into to see read-only configs in the field. Configuration Backups. Even possibly the ability to push some config changes from a central hub.
Running a lot of open source bits here and there (cacti/nagios/rancid) but in the end, everything comes back to relying on a windows machine and winbox eventually.

Daniel, all,
Although it definitely has its limitations, I like the Dude because it is relatively simple, small, and generally effective for what I need it for.
We certainly don't have a /large/ network to manage, though, comprising probably less than 50 monitored devices.
What kind of extra/different functionality are you after, and what limitations of dude are causing you the most grief? Have you tried any other solutions yet? Cactii and Nagios are the usual favourites!
Cheers, Mike.

Hi All.
As my fleet continues to grow I am just wondering if anyone has a central management solution for the RB platform.
The Dude is really poor to be honest and wondering if anyone has something else?
Thoughts?
