On the particular Netmetal I am referring to in this instance the voltage is 27.1V and the cable run is only about 10M, the powerbox which feeds it interestingly shows it's voltage at 26.7V and it is fed via cable from the batteries, but those voltages are still heaps. The cable has also been replaced with brand new outdoor rated CAT6 with shielding and drain wire. This particular site is a solar site as well so power is really stable because it is on batteries and has 10 times more capacity than it ever needs, but this is just my most recent example, we seem to get this problem on almost every new site install now, solar or not, once everything reboots and settles down it seems OK, I get concerned about doing reboots again though as it can cause the issue to re-appear for no apparent reason and when the problem is on a roof it makes it a bit more complicated to address. What are the opinions of the quality of the Mikrotik supplied POE injectors, is there a chance it's these and we should replace them with something better perhaps ? As I said earlier I reckon if I thought about it enough I could probably say that it was only devices which were powered by POE somehow. Check your terminations are all good, check the cable hasn't been damaged (try another cable if you are able to) and check the voltage on the remote end. If possible, try injecting power closer to the remote end too (just as a test). -----Original Message----- From: Public [mailto:public-bounces@talk.mikrotik.com.au] On Behalf Of Paul Julian Sent: Tuesday, 12 July 2016 9:59 AM To: 'MikroTik Australia Public List' <public@talk.mikrotik.com.au> Subject: Re: [MT-AU Public] Speed and Duplex on Mikrotiks Hi Matt, we have probably about the same amount as you, a mix of wireless and non-wireless units, so anything from an RB450 to a CCR 36 core, but the latest one is a site where we just upgraded our radio from an Omnitik to a Netmetal with 20Dbi Sector, when doing this we kept the Omnitik as a backup radio and the installed a Powerbox (RB750P) in before it as a switch basically and to do the POE, leaving everything as Auto the netmetal connected at 10M half duplex one minute, and 100M full duplex the next, flapping between those pretty much, then the Omnitik starts doing the same, we have seen this a lot but it only seems to happen with POE is in play somehow, either from the port or an injector. So we hard set the ports to all be 100FULL on all gear and then we lost the netmetal, so we powercycled the netmetal and it came back at 100FULL and was fine. I don't know what it is but we seem to have so many problems with duplex and port speeds, I just don't get it. We always use Mikrotik POE injectors or POE directly from a port on a Mikrotik so we try to be 100% compatible in all areas like that. It's just Sooooo frustrating ! Gan you give us more info. I have 250+ Mikrotik kit in the field and never seen anything remotely like what you are describing. What models and config ? Very odd. Hi All, is there an actual way of making mikroik routerboards work when on a fixed duplex and speed setting ?, like one that actually works ?
I am so tired of trying to get them to lock onto a speed and duplex only to have them get a mind of their own after a reboot or anytime in the future at all and then stop talking to each other.
Even when talking to each other they seem to hold no regard for any hard set parameters and just randomly go to 10M half duplex or something stupid for no reason.
When we operate 5 or 6 pieces of gear at a site we need to have some confidence that they will actually be able to communicate with each other, hard setting network speed and duplex is good practice and should really be done on all networking equipment when you are in control of both ends of a line IMHO, but damn Mikrotik's have a mind of their own in this area and I am really sick of fighting with them.
Any advice would be appreciated before I lose all remaining hair !
