NBN is already planning G.Fast, they will be installing 4 port hardened DSLAM's in pits and on poles which use reverse power from the CPE for FTTC installations as a minimum, so no cabling except the fibre into the pit and copper to the customer. I was speaking to the manufacturer the other day about some G.Fast DSLAM's that we are looking at, they are pretty awesome, problem is CPE options are next to zero at the moment for G.Fast, but slowly getting there apparently. Here's a G.fast SFP module reference design to get you all drooling. http://www.sckipio.com/first-gfast-sfp-design-announced/ On 19 February 2017 at 05:10, Andrew Cox <andrew.cox@brightwifi.com> wrote:
Just a heads up, I know of at least one of the vendors I was talking to who has now chosen to skip the VDSL2 SFP module in favour of a G.fast option (seeing as that seems to be the next big thing).
I would expect that when G.fast becomes a bit more tried/tested/readily available we might see NBN moving to this too.. (oh and the G.fast gear supports vampiric power so is cheaper to install).
For now my recommendation would be to find the cheapest VDSL2 bridging device you can find and install MikroTiks behind them - much like the old TP-Link 8840T for ADSL2!

I imagine FTTdp will have an inline power injector rather than powering straight from the modem?

Mike, that sounds great. Apparently my part of the world is definitely going to get FTTdp NBN in 2018 sometime. Will this module support pushing power out to the street modem in the pit out the front which FTTdp seems to require?

Hi Denis,
I'm happy to propagate a 'rumour' that there may be an SFP module become available sometime during 2017 that supports vDSL ;)
In the meantime, though, I'm sure others on this list will have a few suggestions (it's been asked at least once before - it may be worth checking the archives for prior suggestions, for comparison or aggregation with latest comments! ;)
Cheers, Mike.

Hi All
We're starting to see some NBN rollout to our customers. Preference is to have the Mikrotik do all the work, any recommendations for VDSL modems ?
