So far I have not found one which is 'good'. The Draytek Vigor 130 is 'ok'. However you MUST flash the firmware to the Vectoring-compatible one before plugging it in, or you will lock your port out. In bridge mode it does fairly well, and worked great at our previous house. Note though that it is HORRENDOUS on a short line, where it is presented with a high signal strength. It drops out every 10 mins or so at our current house (90m to the node, rather than 570m). It also syncs lower than any other modem (50/12 at the old house, compared to 60/18 on the Telstra modem and the NF4V) The Netcomm NF4V syncs at a much higher rate than the Vigor, but it randomly locks up at least once to twice a day, even in bridge mode. I've also tried a TP-Link W9970, which also syncs well, however it also locks up randomly once a day. TBH, I've actually somewhat settled on the Huawei HG630 which TPG provided, as it's quite solid. That said, I haven't actually tried it in bridge mode, as it's the only one of the above modems that I've found just simply lets you turn off NAT, put public IP's on the LAN, and then *works* as a router with no messing about. Though it doesn't support SNMP :\ I've heard good things about Fritzbox's, and may try one eventually, but for now the Huawei is doing well :) If you do try one, let me know how it goes ;) if you know anyone who wants to buy a Vigor 130, NF4v, or W9970 cheap, point them my way ;) On 20 May 2016 at 16:32, Mike Everest <mike@duxtel.com> wrote:
Hi Folks,
A few months back, I asked for opinions on a good adsl modem to use a bridge for MikroTik PPPoE.
With increase in prevalence of VDSL services (especially with #nbwhen ;) does anyone have some opinion of readily available and 'good' (not necessarily cheap ;) vdsl modems?
Cheers!
Mike.
