Mike
If I have my 2 devices connected via Ethernet, I can multicast from one to another. When I try and do the same multicast but using wireless, I get no video showing up on the client machine. I also get no VLC showing up on the client when I go from the server connected to the MK through Ethernet, and the client connected via wireless.
Hope this makes more sense.
Thanks

Hi Paul,
I looked through your original post, but couldn't quite figure out what is
Mike I had read that article and enabled the helper through the GUI, and I wasn't able to multicast VLC. I followed your instructions and its now working - strange (but happy)! My next question is, how can I multicast from the LAN of the BaseBox5 (192.168.15.0/24), to the WLAN clients (192.168.25.0/24). I have read that I would need to enable multicast routing, but the example on that WIKI page is regarding multiple routers. Can you point me to where to look at for this? -----Original Message----- From: Public [mailto:public-bounces@talk.mikrotik.com.au] On Behalf Of Mike Everest Sent: Thursday, 10 July 2014 4:13 PM To: 'MikroTik Australia Public List' Subject: Re: [MT-AU Public] Mikrotik Wireless Multicasting OK! I thought it might be that, but couldn't be sure :-} The issue with multicast across wireless is that mac address in the wireless frame must be set to client mac (by protocol design) so multicast mac address is removed (or something like that) In order to deal with it, routerOS offers 'multicast helper' - have you enabled it? /int wire set wlan1 multicast-helper=full Check this out for more info: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Multicast_detailed_example#Multicast_an d_Wireless Cheers, Mike. the
question - sorry I should have sought to clarify last time :-}
Are you saying that you are having trouble with the multicast, or with the bridge between wire and wireless?
What do you actually mean by 'doesn't work'?
Cheers!
Mike.

Hi
I am trying to stream VLC from a wireless client to multiple other wireless clients, and also from wired to wireless and wireless to wired, but in all 3 scenarios, I don't get anything showing up on the client. Ideally I would like to be able to go from wired to wireless, but if it can only go from wireless to wireless, that will be acceptable too.
Here is the network:
VLC Server(192.168.25.240)--------wireless------(192.168.15.254(wired) & 192.168.25.254(wireless)) --------wireless------VLC Client (192.168.25.241) | | VLC Server(192.168.15.201)--------wired--------------------
Normally I run a PPTP VPN between the wireless clients and the Mikrotik router to ensure the other data is safe, but even without the PPTP tunnels, I can't get it to work.
I have read through http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Interface/Wireless and http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Multicast_detailed_example and set the multicast helper to full, but I can't seem to work out where the issue is.
Any help, or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
