Mike
I had read that article and enabled the helper through the GUI, and I wasn't able to multicast VLC. I followed your instructions and its now working - strange (but happy)!
My next question is, how can I multicast from the LAN of the BaseBox5 (192.168.15.0/24), to the WLAN clients (192.168.25.0/24). I have read
Mike Thanks, I have now downloaded it and installed it. Been looking for a simple howto, as the WIKI goes into multiple routers, and I am unsure of what I need to set for just 1 router. -----Original Message----- From: Public [mailto:public-bounces@talk.mikrotik.com.au] On Behalf Of Mike Everest Sent: Monday, 14 July 2014 1:09 PM To: 'MikroTik Australia Public List' Subject: Re: [MT-AU Public] Mikrotik Wireless Multicasting Hi Paul, It should work much the same way. It does require optional multicast package though (find it in 'all_packages.zip' archive at mikrotik.com/download) have you installed it? http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Routing/Multicast Cheers, Mike. that I
would need to enable multicast routing, but the example on that WIKI page is regarding multiple routers. Can you point me to where to look at for this?

OK! I thought it might be that, but couldn't be sure :-}
The issue with multicast across wireless is that mac address in the wireless frame must be set to client mac (by protocol design) so multicast mac address is removed (or something like that)
In order to deal with it, routerOS offers 'multicast helper' - have you enabled it? /int wire set wlan1 multicast-helper=full
Check this out for more info:

Cheers, Mike.

Mike
If I have my 2 devices connected via Ethernet, I can multicast from one to another. When I try and do the same multicast but using wireless, I get no video showing up on the client machine. I also get no VLC showing up on the client when I go from the server connected to the MK through Ethernet, and the client connected via wireless.
Hope this makes more sense.
Thanks
