Full/Half duplex on Omnitik routers
Hi guys, I have posted before to this email list about an issue we have at customer site where direct Ethernet connections between wireless routers (1 x CPE and 1 x AP back to back) all of a sudden drop from full duplex to half duplex mode, even though they are hard set to 100M full. Previously I have considered POE injectors, cables, etc, but I have just had it happen on the weekend and again this morning at a different site. The common components between these sites are the Gigibit POE injector which comes with the Omnitik radios and the Omnitik radios themselves, at one site I have RB411's plugging into the back of the Omnitik and at the newer site I have SXT's plugging into the back of the Omnitik. So I have tried replacing POE injectors, cables, and also tried leaving the interfaces as auto-negotiate and hard setting them to 100M Full, but the original site still fails from time to time, the link goes to half duplex then at some random time after that just goes back to full duplex by itself. I can play around with the interfaces and get it back up and running normally but clearly I don't want to do that and aren't just able to jump onto the radio and do it at any time. Has anybody else experienced this problem with Omnitiks and if so is there a solution ? I am running ROS 6.19 on the latest problem unit and firmware 3.17. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Paul
Hi, Is it omniTik-U or omniTik-UPA? Are they long cables? Have you tried locking ports to full/100 manually? Cheers, Mike.

Just a FYI on this guys: All changing the Full Duplex/Speed settings is doing in new chipsets is changing the advertised features. The old method was to change the port characteristics and disable advertising capabilities, hence why a port locked at 100/FULL to a partner of 100/AUTO would always come up at 100/HALF. This new method negotiates capabilities and they then settle on the best mutual combination available.

Hi Tim, sounds interesting, however I'm not sure if I am having a moment but I'm not sure what method is the "new" method ? The way I have done it is to untick Auto Negotiation, set speed to 100Mbps, and ensured that the Full Duplex tickbox is ticked. Hi Paul, Sorry missed your first reply: I've seen interference from FM radio cause issues with tower links due to interference. Ethernet and FM radio operate on about the same frequency. The other issue I've seen is sources of interference over long links ingress via DC injectors. If you have spare cables up your tower run, I'd try running power on one, then data on another. As a side note, are you using STP on your runs? I'd also suggest you stick to AUTO mode if you can. -Tim.

Hi guys, I have posted before to this email list about an issue we have at customer site where direct Ethernet connections between wireless routers (1 x CPE and 1 x AP back to back) all of a sudden drop from full duplex to half duplex mode, even though they are hard set to 100M full.
