+1 on the 7800's We use them in bridge mode onto mikrotiks at work. In the end we ended up using Billion 7800 series, in our case 7800NXL. They use the Broadcom chipset for DSL and it is very stable but you must use D firmware. The previous firmwares were unstable. The D firmware has been out for almost a year. We use them on 150+ sites. We have started to pull out onsite PoE switches and replace with Microtik then use the billion in pppoe passthrough bridge mode. So far as good. I don't like to loud mouth other manufactures, but tplink, dlink and others business models do not allow enough time for bug hunting or they continue to add features (draytek) and make the firmware unstable. Mike, whatever you end up using, if you were to stock it I'd buy from you instead of my other suppliers. Even if you mark it up more, I almost always want a Mikrotik router to go with it, and I'd end up saving on shipping. I'd prefer something single-port with no WiFi etc on it though. My research a while ago also came up with these: http://www.traverse.com.au/geos11-adsl2-x86-router-appliance http://www.versatek.com/dslam/adsl2-modem They looked interesting, but I doubt they'd be A-Tick approved. What I'd *really* like is an ADSL2+ bridge with zero software configuration, and a few dip switches on the side to select the mode (VPI/VCI/Modulation/Encapsulation). But by the time I figure out how to build such a device, ADSL will be obsolete. Hi Russell and Mike, the TPLink TD-8817 comes in bridge mode by default and is a single port modem, we use stacks and stacks of these and whilst you have the occasional failure at $23 each or so we just post another one to the customer, it's a lot less than a NFF fee from Telstra ! Lots of places sell them, we just buy about 20 at a time, I think that's a box full. I don't know, they support SNMP but to what point I'm not sure, however if you are running in bridge mode you won't have visibility of the modem anyway unless you run a private subnet between your router and the modem and do some port forwarding on the router to get that visibility. paul -----Original Message----- From: Public [mailto:public-bounces@talk.mikrotik.com.au] On Behalf Of Damien Gardner Jnr Sent: Saturday, 25 October 2014 11:29 AM To: MikroTik Australia Public List Subject: Re: [MT-AU Public] simple, sensible modem for pppoe-passthrough bridge That sounds like a nice price point!
