Virtual AP now also implements virtual client
I found this little gem in the wiki docs this morning while reviewing some training materials: "It is also possible to create virtual clients and have both an AP and a Client on the same physical interface. This allows to make a repeater setup with only using one hardware card." http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Interface/Wireless#Virtual_interfaces Only since v6.35 - I'm sure it was mentioned in release notes, but OK I don't always read the release notes eh? ;-) Cheers!
Oh OK, that's interesting. I am currently using a WDS setup in my house for 2 of the APs until I get off my butt and pull some cable. Would this AP/repeater on the single interface have better performance than WDS? I am using/testing 6.36 on everything. On 25 August 2016 at 10:06, Mike Everest <mike@duxtel.com> wrote:

Hi Jason, Yes - I guess that is one of the intended applications. It means that you don't have to run WDS anymore, and so avoid the loss of half your throughput because it no longer repeats all of the local traffic over WDS to the master, only sending to the AP traffic destined for the other network (which may or may not be all of it anyhow ;) Cheers! Mike.

Oooooh, that's awesome! I'll test that out, it would save me piggybacking two mAP's in my 'travelrouter' so that I can run wireless client at a hotel plus wireless AP to present to our iDevices etc with them tunnelled back to home to keep things private and secure :) On 25 August 2016 at 11:01, Mike Everest <mike@duxtel.com> wrote:

Well this so called wireless repeater mode seems to work well. I originally had a hAP-Lite and my old 751 connected with WDS and was getting 3.5MB/s file transfers. Using wireless repeater setup on the hAP-Lite with WDS disabled now gives 2x or over 7MB/s. I know 300MBit Wifi can do well over 10MB/s with file transfers on 2GHz so it's not stellar but it's definitely better. I have a few sites using WDS and I'll try try out repeater mode when 6.37 becomes stable. On 25 August 2016 at 11:15, Damien Gardner Jnr <rendrag@rendrag.net> wrote:
