Hi all, I know there was some talk a while back about modems in bridge mode for ADSL and there were a few suggestions. With the loss of the TPLink TD8817 now and no replacement in sight at this point we are searching for other options for a reliable low cost ADSL modem just for bridging. The TPLink was great because it was in bridge mode straight out of the box, this meant that you could just shop it to a customer with no need for configuration of any kind, it would be great to find another modem which was already in bridge mode as it's standard configuration. We have been looking at the Netgear DM200 which is an ADSL2/VDSL2 modem, it has promise but is triple the price of the TPLink. What are people's thoughts on the DM200 if you have used one ? are they worth the money as an ADSL modem ? I think they would be worth it for VDSL but I can't help but think there should be a good ADSL modem cheaper than that, even the Draytek modems are a lot more than the TPLink. I would be interested in peoples thoughts on this as I am now at zero stock levels and need new modems yesterday J Thanks Paul

Friends don't let friends buy NetGear :-) Also, NetGear have an inglorious record of not supporting bridge mode, so double check it can actually be configured that way. Thanks Karl, we used to use the DM111P modems a few years back and they were pretty reasonable, we changed to TPLink as the pricing was sharper and surge protection was also better which is something which seemed to kill the DM111P's pretty easily. Have you tried the Draytek Vigor 120? That was my go to modem after the TD8817. It's not as easy to configure but it's pretty reliable in my opinion, and has a nice small footprint like the 8817. As far as bridge mode out of the box, I don't think it is, off the top of my head, but I'm sure there would be a way to save a configure and flash them before shipping? I used several Vigor 120s before switching to the TD-8817, and I don't have anything nice to say about them. I ended up replacing every one I had in the field with a TD-8817 at my expense. They don't do bridge mode out of the box, and you'll get inconsistent results if you configure the settings in a different order. I've had them just die on me randomly sometimes months, sometimes a few years after installing. I've never had a TD-8817 fail. Having said that, I've just ordered my second Draytek Vigor 130 for an NBN client. The last one seems to be ok so far. Didn't have many other options. I've just discovered that Planet have recently released a VC-231G single port VDSL bridge that supports vectoring, but the distributor hasn't tested it on FTTN NBN yet, so I'd be interested to know whether that's an option. Doesn't help with ADSL though. I didn't realise the TD-8817 was end of life until I saw this thread. That's a bit of a bummer, I think the only ones I've got left are s/h. I'm looking forward to an SFP ADSL/VDSL module option... - Russell -----Original Message----- From: Public [mailto:public-bounces@talk.mikrotik.com.au] On Behalf Of Ben Jackson - eLogik Sent: Friday, 14 July 2017 15:01 To: MikroTik Australia Public List <public@talk.mikrotik.com.au> Subject: Re: [MT-AU Public] Bridged Modem Options Have you tried the Draytek Vigor 120? I agree with your comments to a point, I've had a few 120's die, but have also had one or two 8817's die on site too. The TPLink is, of course, better but the premise of the question was based around it being discontinued so it's a moot point. The vigor 130 is far more expensive and I haven't tested it with ADSL, only VDSL, in which it seems to perform well in bridge mode. I have a DM200 (with latest firmware - check Netgear's site) I use for testing VDSL2 connections. I have yet to deploy it in anger as everyone seems to be getting a new modem sent to them from their ISP but the connection speed it reports is consistent with the fancy test unit the NBN techs have. Did not use it in bridge mode yet, although it can do it. On 14 July 2017 at 17:29, Ben Jackson - eLogik <ben@elogik.net> wrote:

Hi All, I have had success with a Netcomm NF4V I had Telstra turn up saying I needed to buy their $240 Modem , I instead installed the NetComm NF4V in "ADSL Bridge mode" a week before the VDSL cut over . On the day of cutover , I defaulted the NF4V , set it into VDSL Bridge mode & it hasn't missed a beat. So a tick for the NF4V in both ADSL & VDSL ( ADSL was obliviously using PPPoE Client , & to set up VDSL I removed the PPPoE client just applied a DHCP client on that WAN interface ! ) On 2017-07-14 18:40, Jason Hecker (Up & Running Tech) wrote:
