Hi guys, I have a slight problem, I have chucked an Omnitik on a mast straight out of the box to use as a redundant spare and I can't get into the damn thing now I am back at the office...... I have plugged into ether 1 to get the POE to power it and the default config won't let me in on port 1 no matter what I try. I can't see it in neighbours from the device on the other end of the cable and I really don't want to have to get up on the roof again. Any suggestions on how I might be able to get into it ? I have power cycled it to no avail, I have tried to Mac Telnet to it but it drops the connection. Any suggestions would really be appreciated as it's a PITA to get back on this roof......now I am in the predicament I seem to recall this is always a problem on these Omnitiks ! Regards Paul

Ouch! :-( Stupidly (IMHO) the default configuration on omnitik is like rb450 and 95x series - i.e ether1 (which is also the PoE-in port) is configured as 'WAN' port so effectively firewalled off by default, and so it is quite inaccessible via ether5 until you remove the block by connecting to a different interface first. To make it worse, wireless is configured as station by default and disabled, so no chance of getting it that way either :( The only way to access ether1 otherwise is to put it into netinstall mode and run netinstall without keeping the config. But only way to run netinstall is to hold down the reset button from power up to boot... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... :-l Mike. thing this problem

Just a thought - Is mac-telnet firewalled on the PoE port? If not the default config probably has a DHCP client enabled. You could possibly spin up a DHCP server to give it an ip address that you could then ping to discover mac-address (in the ARP table) and mac-telnet into it? My initial expectation would be yes - mac telnet is disabled on ether1. BUT ;-) Then I looked up the official docs: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Default_Configurations So you may be in luck Paul - omnitik is one of the few that does not have mac server disabled on WAN port.... Good luck - and let us know! Cheers, Mike. thunder.
