Upgrade from 5.24 to 6.31 possible ???
Hi guys, just wondering if somebody can confirm if I can upgrade from 5.24 straight to 6.31 on an RB1100 ?? I thought you needed to go to a later version of 5.x first before upgrading ? When I try to do the upgrade from within the router itself it says that the latest version is 6.27 and then complains that it can't find one of the npk files and aborts the download. Thanks Paul

Hi Paul, It /should/ work OK - there is no inherent requirement to start with the highest available revision of a prior version. Perhaps you have optional packages installed and upgrading with the combined package that doesn't have the optional included? Perhaps it's best to use the 'traditional' upgrade method? ;) Cheers! Mike. the
latest version is 6.27 and then complains that it can't find one of the npk files and aborts the download.

OK Thanks Mike, I need to try and fix that OSPF bug and need to do upgrades late tonight, I'm a bit nervous doing that though as it's our core routers, will try the backup first then I think :-) It was failing on one of the main routerboard packages and said that it couldn't download it as the package was missing. Thanks for the response. Hi, I'm pretty sure I've done something similar ie 5.26->6.2x I have been overly cautious with older firmware though (eg 5.09), by doing a firmware upgrade (eg "/system routerboard upgrade") before and after the upgrade to 5.26 and then upgrading to 6.x and redoing the firmware upgrade. 4 reboots still keeps you within 6 or so minutes outage :) -----Original Message----- From: Public [mailto:public-bounces@talk.mikrotik.com.au] On Behalf Of Paul Julian Sent: Sunday, August 16, 2015 6:31 PM To: public@talk.mikrotik.com.au Subject: [MT-AU Public] Upgrade from 5.24 to 6.31 possible ??? Thanks Stavros, I was thinking about going to 5.26 first but can't find the packages for PPC, it seemed to be the most stable version of 5.x and what we usually go to before we jump to 6.x, good point about the firmware though, something to definitely keep in mind, thanks ! Hi Paul, If you go to http://www.mikrotik.com/download and select "Legacy (5.26)" from the pulldown menu, you'll find it. http://download2.mikrotik.com/routeros/5.26/routeros-powerpc-5.26.npk Matt. On 17/08/2015 12:36 a.m., Paul Julian wrote:

Do those devices have partitions ? The CCR's do and you can setup so they fail back to the previous firmware on failed boot. Also I remember for the ccr's there was some requirement for hardware firmware to be done as well... Thanks Matt and Alex, I got them up to 5.26 last night so we will see how that goes with the OSPF bug, I have the 6.31 package ready to go as well but I thought I would just try the 5.26 version and firmware upgrade as well, so far so good. I'm not sure about the partition though, will have to investigate that.
